SATO "S" Series provides complete and automatic UHF RFID labeling

CHARLOTTE, NC - September 22, 2004 - SATO America, Inc., the global leader in print engines for use in print/apply equipment and the developer of the world's first print engine, announced today the introduction of the SATO RFID-enabled "S" Series OEM print engines. The RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) module adopted by SATO operates in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band (915 Mhz) and conforms to the EPC Class 1 standard.

Unlike a conventional barcode label with static information, an RFID label uses a UHF chip embedded in the label that automatically exchanges its information with an external reader. The data stored on the RFID-enabled "smart label" can be updated, supplemented, or deleted at any time. Additionally, RFID technology enables an RFID label to be read regardless of its orientation and without direct, line-of-sight considerations, allowing reading operations to be done automatically, while reducing labor costs and improving accuracy. RFID technology provides rapid, reliable tracking of goods and materials throughout the entire supply chain.
