Original Press Release:

New 64-bit Microprocessor-Controlled Print/Apply System Features Fast Image Processing and Reliable, Low-Maintenance Design

A new high-speedprinter/applicator featuring 64-bit microprocessor technology is now available from Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas. The product, called the AVERYDENNISON(tm) ALX 924/926 Print-and-Apply System, offers maximum throughput and productivity in a wide range of demanding product ID, distribution and warehouse labeling applications.

The system's 64-bit microprocessor technology provides extremely fast image processing, facilitating production of complex labels with constantly varying data. Its multi-tasking operating system simultaneously handles all communications and printing functions, eliminating delays or interruptions between print runs. This feature, combined with a maximum print speed of 16 inches per second, yields exceptional labeling productivity.

The AVERY DENNISON ALX 924/926(tm) employs near-edge print head technology to produce high-quality 1D and 2D bar codes, graphics and human-readable copy on a wide range of label materials, at 300-dpi print resolutions. Multiple label printing and dispensing modes with a variety of applicator options provide maximum flexibility and throughput for different applications.

The system is equipped with an extensive internal library containing popular 1D and 2D bar codes and 17 standard and two scalable fonts. Additional fonts, logos and graphics can be stored on a 32-megabyte compact flash card.

Continuous, Reliable Operation
The AVERY DENNISON ALX 924/926(tm) is designed for continuous production-line operation with minimal downtime and few service interruptions. The system's 1000-meter ribbon supply permits extended operation without ribbon changes. A ribbon-saver mechanism conserves ribbon on portions of the label that are not printed, further extending run time and reducing material costs. An integrated label unwind/rewind assembly minimizes the time required for changes of label media.

The system is also easy to operate. It features a multilingual two-line alphanumeric display and color-coded operator adjustments to minimize training and set-up time. For added convenience the display can be rotated 360 degrees so that it can be easily read in any orientation.

In addition, the system has a built-in dot-check feature that can test the print head to confirm all elements are functioning properly. If any problems are detected, the operator is alerted. If print head replacement is required, it can be accomplished by the user, eliminating the need for a service call.

The AVERY DENNISON(tm) ALX 924/926 is available in left- and right-hand orientations to fit different production-line requirements. The system comes in three versions, each with a different print width. The AVERY DENNISON(tm) ALX 924 and AVERY DENNISON(tm) ALX 925 have print widths of 4.2 inches and 5 inches respectively. Both systems handle label widths up to 5.2 inches. The AVERY DENNISON(tm) ALX 926 has a print width of 6.4 inches; it processes label widths up to 7.36 inches.
