Presteigne Supplies Grass Valley Cameras for BBC's HD Wimbledon Coverage

Leading rental house Presteigne Broadcast is supplying Grass Valley LDK 6000 HD cameras and LDK 6200 Super Slo-mo HD cameras to the BBC for its coverage of the 2006 Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships. Although Wimbledon has been used for experimental HD coverage in the past, this is the first year in which the BBC will broadcast it in HD, on the Sky platform and its trial terrestrial service.

The LDK6200 is the only HD camera currently available capable of high speed acquisition for realtime playback of high quality slow motion, and has been a major factor in creating highly attractive sports coverage in HD. The LDK 6000 WorldCam camera is widely recognised as the global standard in multi-format HD cameras for studio and outside broadcast applications.

"The summer of 2006 will be remembered as the year that HD reached a mass European audience, driven by wonderful sporting action," said Mike Ransome, managing director of Presteigne. "Wimbledon makes perfect high definition television, giving the audience at home not just the action but the whole atmosphere. The super slo-mo capabilities of the LDK 6200 are a vital part of that presentation."

"From a practical standpoint, the fact that both the LDK 6000 and the LDK6200 work on standard triax cables means we can get them in and out quickly," he added. "We are delighted to be working with the BBC on this historic HD coverage."
