Original Press Release:

Small Board-Mountable Pressure Transducer from MicroFused Sensors

Hampton, VA, July 2003 - MicroFused Sensors, a division of Measurement Specialties, Inc. (AMEX:MSS), has introduced a new low cost pressure transducer, in medium-to-high volume, commercial and industrial OEM applications.

Compact and very thin profile, the MSP-100 series transducer is ideally suited for use with industrial or commercial equipment where space is at a premium. Providing a measurement range up to 3000 PSI (210 BAR), the new transducer is offered with a non-amplified output and an accuracy of +/- 1%, with an operating temperature range of -20° to 85°C.

Featuring extremely compact one-piece stainless steel construction in a cost-effective low profile package design, the MSP-100 employs proprietary technology derived from demanding aerospace applications. Micromachined silicon piezoresistive strain gauges are fused to a stainless steel diaphragm. This approach achieves media compatibility by hermetically isolating the micromachined strain gage sensors simply and elegantly, creating an exceptionally stable sensor without the p-n junctions of conventional micromachined sensors.

The MicroFused Pressure sensor is designed for measurement of liquid or gas pressure, and suitable for difficult media such as contaminated water, distilled liquids, and mildly corrosive fluids or gases. The design incorporates an o-ring and retainer groove for easy installation.

The MSP-100's pressure cavity is machined from a solid piece of 316 SS or 17-4 pH stainless steel, and the sensor utilizes an 0-ring sealed pressure connection. The design is compatible with both corrosive liquid as well as food grade liquid applications.

Common applications for the MSP-100 pressure transducer include hydraulic/pneumatic systems, flow meters, energy & water management, pressure instrumentation, and beverage dispensing machines.

Measurement Specialties (AMEX: MSS), designs, develops, produces, and sells electronic sensors and sensor-based consumer products. Consumer products include body-weight, kitchen, and postal scales, electronic tire pressure gauges, parking aids, and distance estimators. Industrial products include sensors for high volume, OEM applications. Measurement Specialties' products employ specialized application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), and diverse sensor technologies based on micromachining (the three-dimensional sculpting of silicon), MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems), force balance, strain gage, capacitive, inductive, piezoresisitive micromachined, and piezopolymer film, which provide accurate and efficient measurement, resolution and display of ranges of distance, motion, fluid level, force, displacement, angle, or pressure.
