Texas Instruments Sensors and Controls Launches new low-cost, 4-20 mA Hermetic Pressure Transducer

Provides EMC Protection, Vibration Tolerance and Wide Operating Temperature Range

ATTLEBORO, MA September 15, 2004-- Texas Instruments Sensors and Controls (TI S&C) group today announced a new, low-cost hermetically sealed 4-20 mA pressure transducer/transmitter ideally suited for industrial and process equipment and medical products where accuracy, EMC protection and the ability to operate in harsh environments is vital.

The new dry hermetic transducer (DHT) features an all stainless steel casing that is environmentally sealed to protect the advanced non-drift ceramic, capacitive sensing element from contaminants. The welded hermetic seal also improves vibration tolerances, rated at 20g (up to 1kHz).

The transducer/transmitter offers EMC (electro magnetic compatibility) protection at levels to 100V/m, an important factor when designing complex and compact systems. The device is highly accurate to 0.25 BFSL and has a repeatability level of 0.1%. It is designed to operate in a broad range of temperatures from -40 to 135°C.

Available in both 4-20 mA or voltage outputs, the versatile DHT also offers pressure ranges from 50 to 750 PSI.

"Voltage and mA output capabilities make this new transducer ideal for a wide range of applications from medical systems monitoring and pneumatics, HVAC regulators and compressors, pumps and flow systems used in process industries, and hydraulics for off-road vehicles where low cost and high performance are key system design criteria," said John Pechonis, global marketing manager for TI's Sensors & Controls group.

TI S&C, which produces more than 100 million pressure sensing devices each year, has based the new DHT on their core expertise in pressure sensing technology and proven manufacturing processes.
