Texas Instruments Sensors and Controls Introduces 3PP8 Hermetic Pressure Transducer for Natural Gas Vehicles


Texas Instruments' newest hermetic pressure transducer, the 3PP8 series silicon MEMs strain gauge sensor is now being evaluated for OEM use in Natural Gas Vehicles. This new pressure transducer from Texas Instruments Sensors & Controls features self-diagnostic capabilities that interface directly with NGV's electronic engine control systems.

Using traditional internal combustion engines, NGV's rely on natural gas for fuel, stored at high pressure, which must be "metered down" via pressure regulating systems. Both these crucial systems require precise, real time pressure sensing to control engine performance and monitor the status of the system. The 3PP8 sensor is ideal for this application, being a robust, hermetically sealed device packaged in a stainless steel casing to resist rust in the most severe environmental conditions. The state of the art sensing element ensures optimum operation in most industrial media.

The pressure transducer features EEPROM memory allowing each device to store details of the device's calibration coefficients and serialization data. The transducer operates with a 5 Vdc supply and provides a linear voltage output.
