Honeywell Introduces Upgraded Ultra-Low-Pressure Silicon Pressure Sensors

Devices Provide Enhanced Performance, Accuracy, and Sensitivity While Lowering Integration Costs

MINNEAPOLIS, September 14, 2009 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has expanded its industry-leading ASDX Series silicon pressure sensor portfolio with ultra-low pressure ranges that include 0 to 10 inches of H2O gage, ± 10 inches of H2O differential, and ±5 inches of H2O differential. These sensors include additional signal conditioning integrated within the product, allowing customers to remove components associated with signal conditioning from their PC board to free space and reduce costs normally associated with those components.

The Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)-based design provides a fast, highly accurate, amplified, conditioned pressure reading. Ratiometric 12-bit analog output for reading pressure over the specified full scale pressure span and temperature range allows for fast and easy integration into standard electronic circuits, and 12-bit I² C or SPI digital interface for reading pressure over the specified full scale pressure span and temperature range minimizes connections and provides higher resolution and faster performance through reduced conversion requirements and the convenience of direct interface to the microprocessors and microcontrollers.

The ASDX Series achieve a tight total error band of ± 2.0% of full scale span maximum, providing enhanced sensitivity and accuracy even at ultra-low pressure ranges. Custom calibration ranges (inches H2O, psi, mbar, bar, kPa), supply voltage of 3.3 Vdc or 5.0 Vdc, and absolute, differential, and gage pressure types expand application opportunities.

These ultra-low pressure sensors are intended for use with non-corrosive, non-ionic working fluids, such as air and dry gases. The ASDX Series pressure sensors are fully calibrated and temperature compensated for sensor offset, sensitivity, temperature effects, and non-linearity. Calibrated output values for pressure are updated at approximately 1 kHz.

The ASDX Series silicon pressure sensors may potentially be used in industrial and medical applications including barometry, flow calibrators, gas-flow instrumentation, sleep apnea/therapy equipment, pneumatic controls, and ventilation/airflow monitors.
