Adhesives Research Showcases Electronically Clean, Ultra Low-Outgassing Adhesive Tapes at DISKCON USA 2003
GLEN ROCK, Pa. (August 8, 2003) - Adhesives Research, Inc., a leading global developer and manufacturer of custom pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape technology, will be showcasing its latest ARclean® electronically clean PSA technologies for hard disk drive (HDD) assembly at the DISKCON USA 2003 Conference and Exhibition on September 9-10, 2003, in San Jose, Ca. Representatives from Adhesives Research's Electronics Business Unit will be available in booth #202 to discuss these ARclean® products and the Company's capabilities to develop custom PSA products for the HDD industry.
The latest generation of ARclean® products are ultra low-outgassing with improved cleanliness that are available with either permanent or cleanly strippable properties for rework. These electronically clean PSAs are acrylic acid-free with ultra low total VOCs and low extractable ions. Use of these adhesives minimizes HDD system crashes due to contamination while minimizing media fogging and head corrosion. ARclean® cleanly strippable tapes also help to eliminate labor costs and contamination associated with adhesive residue during HDD rework. These electronically clean tapes are available with cleanroom compatible, non-silicone and low extractable silicone polyester release liners.
ARclean® electronically clean tapes are used in various applications in HDD assemblies including bar code, caddy and marketing labels, and bonding and sealing micro-contamination filters. These high-performance PSA tapes can also be used to fabricate the following hermetic seals: warranty, base, perimeter, topcover, screw hole, clockhead, servo track write and seals with adhesive-free zones. ARclean® strippable PSA products are a critical component in HDD assembly, particularly in the fabrication of tape seals and filters where clean strippability from stainless steel, cast aluminum, stamped aluminum or e-coated aluminum is required for rework after the burn-in process.
Current products in the ARclean® line include:
ARclean® 8906, a 4-mil ultra low-outgassing, clear polyester film tape with a permanent adhesive on one side and a cleanly strippable adhesive on the reverse side. This double-sided PSA is suggested for use in fabricating filters and tape seals requiring "adhesive-free zones" where clean strippability off of HDD base plates and covers is required for rework after burn-in.
ARclean® 8971, which incorporates all the properties of ARclean® 8906, but is specifically designed for fabricating environmental seals on HDD assemblies where clean strippability off of HDD e-coated aluminum base plates and covers is required for rework after burn-in.
ARclean® 9019, an electronically clean, ultra low-outgassing adhesive with a 2-mil thermally printable, white polyester film. It is suggested for use in the fabrication of bar code, marketing and caddy labels for hard disk drives.
ARclean® 90124, an easily identifiable, 3-mil black polyester film coated with an ultra low-outgassing adhesive. Supported by a clear polyester non-silicone release liner, ARclean® 90124 is suggested for use in the fabrication of seals for hard disk drive assemblies and components.
ARclean® 8988, an acrylic acid-free, ultra-low outgassing bonding tape with a 2-mil clear polyester film carrier. This permanent bonding tape is suggested for use in the fabrication of tape seals and the bonding of microcontamination filters inside of HDD housings. ARclean® 8988 is heat resistant to the operating temperatures in HDD applications and is protected with a dual non-silicone polyester film release liner system.
