Pressure Packing keeps compressors cool.

Press Release Summary:

Thermosleeve packing for reciprocating compressors eliminates need for direct water cooling of packing assembly. It provides direct path for heat conduction from packing assembly to cylinder housing using cup and expanding sleeve. Packing installs in existing cylinders and may be reconditioned. Thermosleeve is also suitable for air cooled compressors.

Hoerbiger Introduces Thermosleeve - A Non-Cooled Pressure Packing For Compressors

Pompano Beach, FL - November 30, 2001 - HOERBIGER introduces a new packing design for reciprocating compressors - Thermosleeve - which eliminates the need for direct water cooling of the packing assembly. The benefits of the Thermosleeve packing result in longer service life of the pressure packing, and ultimately lower maintenance and repair costs to the compressor user.

Up to now in many applications pressure packings had to be water cooled. Part of the frictional heat created at the friction surfaces of packing rings has to be removed through the housing of the packing in order to maintain a safe working temperature in the assembly and to prevent overheating of the packing rings and consequently, premature wear.

Thermosleeve provides a direct path for heat conduction from the packing assembly to the cylinder housing using a special cup and expanding sleeve. The expanding sleeve is drawn to the distance piece side by actuating several grub screws until it creates the heat conducting contact to the cylinder. The existing cylinder cooling performs further heat removal.

Water cooling provided by an external system is often costly, and Thermosleeve's unique design eliminates the need for external water cooling systems. There is no danger of coolant contamination and no clogging of narrow cooling channels by corrosion or debris. It is simple to install in existing cylinders and easily reconditioned. Thermosleeve is also suitable for air cooled compressors.
