Press System straightens and cuts metal coils.

Press Release Summary:

PSA presses cut most tensile metals in their cold state to cut-to-length blanks or full bar stock with no burrs or hardening. PSA Series turnkey systems each feature PSA adiabatic cutting unit, servo feed unit, rotary or roll straighten er, electronic controller, and coil pay-off. Models PSA20, PSA35, PSA75 and PSA150 cut diameters from 0.080-1.500 in., at speeds ranging from 50-125 cycles/min, with tolerance ranges between ±.005-±.015 in.

Lmc Introduces New Straighten-N-Cut Systems

PSA Series - High Cut Quality, No Burrs, Attractive Price

DeKalb, IL, April 2007, - LMC, Inc., the world's foremost authority in Adiabatic Manufacturing Technology, has introduced a new press series. The press system has been designed to straighten and cut coils into both cut-to-length blanks and/or full bar stock. This press series was designed to provide LMC customers with an economical way to produce both long and short blanks. The system is priced to compete favorably with conventional shearing equipment, but with a higher quality of cut.

The PSA Press will cut virtually any tensile metal in its cold state. Given the increasing cost of metals, LMC will substantially reduce material waste and the cost of processing compared to the traditional methods of shearing or saw cut. The PSA Series surpasses industry standards for cut quality, length tolerances and production rates. The PSA-20, PSA-35, PSA-75 and PSA150 press systems process wire diameters from 0.080 (2mm) to 1.500 (40mm) inches. These turnkey systems each include a PSA Adiabatic Cutting Unit, Servo Feed Unit(s), Rotary or Roll Straightener, Electronic Controller and Coil Pay-Off.

Features and Benefits of the PSA Press Series include: Cutting - High Velocity Adiabatic Impact Unit provides clean cuts with no burrs, or work hardening on the ends. One die is accelerated at a very high rate of speed, several times faster then a typical cam operated knife and quill shearing system. It cuts cleanly with very little die movement which minimized wear and increases the life expectancy of the cutting tools. The extreme speed of the die block at impact will separate the wire cleanly. It is common to achieve hundreds of thousands of cuts between sharpening of the die blocks.

Feeding - Servo-Powered Feeder is designed to accurately position material utilizing feed rollers that are clamped with LMC's patented "Power Pac" systems. The feeder is powered by a high speed, high torque closed-loop servo drive system. The acceleration and deceleration of the stock is optimized to provide smooth and accurate feeds. There are no troublesome limit switches or mechanical stops. This allows for cutting of extremely short blanks when necessary.

Straightening - Customers have a choice between the Rotary Arbor and Roll Straightener.
An Oscillating Rotary Arbor Straightener is selected for straightening rounds, when straightness needs to be exact. The arbor is designed to evenly work the material, while removing stresses from the coil. The powerful variable speed rotary allows for the straightening of virtually all materials. The oscillating action prevents the stock from swelling and/or breaking. Straightness to 0.010" (0.25mm) or better per foot is consistently achieved. A Roll Straightener is selected for straightening both shapes and round stock. The two plane roll straightener uses 7 rollers per plane which are independently adjustable. Having each roller completely adjustable provides for greater flexibility and the ability to make very straight pieces.

Controls - Electronic Controller is very operator friendly and allows for the change of lengths with ease. It controls all aspects of the system. The Controller allows the operator to input a job number or feed length and number of required parts. It allows for batch cutting of random lengths if desired.

Material Handling - LMC offers several different types of powered single and dual material pay-off units in both horizontal and vertical orientations. These are specified based on the type of coil and the customer's requirement.

The PSA20 will cut diameters from .080" (2mm) to .200" (5mm) at 125 cycles per minute while maintaining length tolerances at +/- .005" (0.125mm). The PSA35 will cut to .395" (10mm) at rates up to 100 cycles per minute and at tolerances of +/-.007" (.175mm). The PSA75 will cut to .750" (19mm) at rates up to 75 cycles per minute and at tolerances of +/-.010" (.250mm). The PSA150 will cut to 1.50" (40mm) at 50ppm with tolerances maintained at +/-.015" (.375mm). The PSA press series is a very competitively priced straightening and cutting system that offers a superior cut, fast feed and accurate wire straightening.
