Precision, Resistancy and Quality Distinguish the Wide Range of Master Gears by Samputensili

A company with longstanding experience in the manufacture of different types of master gears designed to customer specifications or to DIN standards.

Bologna, 10th March 2006 - Samputensili, a leading manufacturer of gear cutting tools and machinery worldwide, presents its wide range of checking masters (to determine work gear accuracy) and setting masters (to adjust checking equipment). Thanks to extensive in-house experience, master gear design and production processes are all carried out using Samputensili software and modern manufacturing methods, delivering personalised products to customer specifications or, if unavailable, to DIN standards. With Samputensili master gears, it is possible to check spur gears (with or without profile corrections), helical gears (with or without profile corrections) and internal gears.

Samputensili is specialised in the manufacture of a wide range of master gears to meet the specific needs of its customers. When checking work parts, the master gear flank rotates in contact with the work gear teeth and primarily checks meshing, centre distance and run out and it detects any nicks. Setting masters, on the other hand, are usually static. Flexibility is one of the main features. Two master gears for different applications and consequently of different design can check the same workpiece correctly. For example two master gears with different limitations in terms of centre distance may present different profile deviations but still check the whole active profile of the teeth correctly. During regrinding tooth thickness decreases; this is compensated by decreasing the outside diameter. The Samputensili production range includes master gears from module 1 to module 6 with an outside diameter that varies from a minimum of 40 mm to a maximum of 300 mm, a tooth face width from 4 to 100 mm and a helix angle from 0 to 45°.

All master gears are manufactured on Samputensili grinding machines with state-of the art production methods. They are produced in high speed steel or bearing steel (without surface coating), depending on the application and on individual customer requirements. Samputensili primarily uses powder metals (high speed steels ASP23 ASP30). The choice of the company to use tool steel guarantees reduced wear and thus longer life of master gears compared to other solutions available on the market. Upon request, master gears may be PVD TiN coated which enhances wear resistance significantly thanks to an elevated level of hardness, a low friction coefficient and a low chemical affinity with the majority of metals. Setting masters are not usually coated since they are not prone to deterioration. All master gears need resharpening periodically to guarantee top performance and profile quality. Thanks to its experience and know how in the field of resharpening, Samputensili is more than qualified for the job.

The master gears produced by the Bolognese company are always shipped with a quality certificate issued on latest-generation CNC checking equipment. Samputensili therefore assures its customers a top quality product. The whole manufacturing process is in fact managed by in-house software and special procedures which ensure that each single piece produced is resistant and reliable. Samputensili master gears are designed to DIN 3962 standards or to customer specifications and are produced from class 2 (the only class without surface coating) to class 6. The class of master gear depends on the application: master gears to check collision-type deformation are usually manufactured to DIN 3962 class 5; those for checking meshing quality to DIN 3962 class 3-4 while setting masters are produced to DIN 3962 class 3. All master gears are designed by Samputensili and are tailor-made for the application at hand to guarantee the best in terms of quality.

One of the most distinctive features of Samputensili is its on-going focus on technological research, both in terms of products and processes, in line with industrial and market developments. Samputensili is in fact able to guarantee a close and continued relationship between its engineering teams and those of the customers which serves to build an in-depth understanding of the real requirements of the customer and to offer personalised and efficient solutions. This Group from the heart of Emilia in Italy invests a considerable portion of its turnover each year in product and process innovation. In the year 2004 Samputensili in fact invested a total of 5,4 million Euros in product and process innovation. The company also plans to invest 9,1 million Euros in 2005 and around 8% of its turnover will be dedicated to investments in product and process innovation and research and development over the next three years (2005-2007).

Based in Bologna, Italy, Samputensili is a leading manufacturer of gear cutting tools and machines (in 2004 Samputensili manufactured more 37.300 tools including hobs, shaving cutters, shaper cutters, chamfering tools, deburring tools, rolling dies and grinding wheels and delivered 77 machine tools). Understanding fully the needs of its customers, Samputensili is able to satisfy specific requirements with optimal solutions and the application of the best technology available on the market. Samputensili has 570 employees and 9 manufacturing facilities (3 in Italy and 6 foreign units located in Germany, the US, France, Brazil, South Korea and China) and offers its customers technical competence and top quality products thanks to intense research and development. In 2004 Samputensili registered an increase in its consolidated turnover of 12% compared to the previous year, totalling 71 Million Euros.

The Samputensili product range finds application in the mechanical engineering sector (in particular manufacturers of speed reducers, automobiles, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, hydraulic pumps, gearboxes and transmissions and lifts), in construction and extraction machinery, in earth moving equipment, in aerospace, in shipbuilding, in the co-generation of energy and in the manufacture of medical instruments.

Samputensili has manufacturing facilities in Italy, Germany, France, Brasil, the US and Korea and operates worldwide through various sales offices and agents. Samputensili is part of SAMP S.p.A., a company which operates in a range of different mechanical engineering sectors, from the production of wire extrusion equipment to the manufacture of spur and helical gears.

The SAMP Group is 100% controlled by S.E.C.I. Spa, holding company of the Maccaferri Industrial Group. The activities of the Maccaferri Industrial Group are concentrated in six different sectors: Metallurgy (Officine Maccaferri and Bianchini), Mechanical engineering (Samputensili, Sampsistemi and Sampingranaggi), Construction (Adanti and Sapaba), Food (Eridania Sadam, Sadam Abruzzo, Sadam Castiglionese), Energy (Termica Celano and Jesi Energia) and Real Estate (SECI Real Estate).
