(Freudenberg)-betacontrol GmbH und Co. KG has recently contributed to the development of an innovative die automation system for film and sheet extrusion. As cooperating partner of maku ag (Buochs Switzerland), betacontrol and its gauge measuring systems have significantly contributed to the success of the maku-DieTool.
The maku-DieTool is the first fully or semi automatic die lip adjustment system which can be installed onto an existing film or sheet die without making any mechanical alterations to the die itself. The linear carriage which travels above the sheet die provides accessibility to every setscrew allowing a precise and instant adjustment of the die lip as small as <0.005 mm (0.02 mil).
In connection with a precise gauge measuring systems from betacontrol GmbH & Co. KG, the die lip can be adjusted fully automatic and according to a predetermined gage profile. Therefore, the maku-DieTool is capable of ensuring a high level of flexibility. The first installation was a great success and predicts a bright future for the product. "Due to the well established partnership we are quite optimistic to carry out further projects together. In addition, the maku-DieTool is equipped with an incremental encoder and is capable of storing every single adjustment of every single setscrew. Therefore, the setscrews can be reset automatically to a specified basic or if required a new setup. This can be done during production, no machinery shutdown is required. Low energy consumption is another benefit. In comparison to thermo expansion bolts, the maku-DieTool requires up to 95% less energy which leads to tremendous cost/energy savings.
