Siemens Expands OpenScape Portfolio with New Affordable, 'All in One' Enterprise Communications Solution

Latest Version of OpenScape(R) Xpressions(R) Provides Simplified, Easy to Deploy UC Features, Designed to Increase Productivity While Reducing Costs

MUNICH, March 23 -- Siemens Enterprise Communications today announced the availability of OpenScape Xpressions, the latest addition to the award-winning Siemens OpenScape unified communications (UC) portfolio. OpenScape Xpressions offers a powerful, pre-packaged and easy-to-deploy UC solution that is designed to facilitate easy integration into today's multivendor environments, including most PBXs on the market. It works with existing telephony infrastructures and offers out of the box UC with built-in voice mail, Unified Messaging (UM), instant messaging (IM), presence, and audio and web conferencing. This is part of Siemens ongoing effort to eliminate the barriers to UC adoption by offering solutions that are more affordable and accessible to today's enterprises, as well as delivering on the company's Open Communications commitment to interoperability.

"The productivity benefits delivered by unified communications solutions are all too often tempered by the cost and complexity of implementing the requisite technology," said Brian Riggs, Research Director at Current Analysis, a market research firm based in Sterling, Virginia. "A cost-effective and straightforward means of deploying unified communications is becoming increasingly important to businesses, particularly in today's strained economic clime."

OpenScape Xpressions is designed to meet this demand by offering a simple upgrade for any of the more than 10,000 existing enterprises worldwide already using Xpressions, or for new deployments in enterprises seeking a more affordable, easy to deploy UC solution. The latest version of Xpressions expands on its already robust voice and messaging features to offer UC features such as built-in IM and point-and-click calling and video/web conferencing. By eliminating the need for external conferencing bridges, the solution offers the potential to quickly pay for itself, while improving collaboration.

In addition, the application's IM and presence capabilities include support for multi-party IM sessions. The Xpressions desktop client can show user presence status and user profile sharing, including location information to streamline communications. Another highlight of OpenScape Xpressions is Visual Voicemail, which provides users access to all their voice messages via the software's desktop interface. With these features, companies have a means to help improve their responsiveness both internally and externally, while reducing failed communication attempts, which can save time and increase productivity.

"Unlike other UC solutions on the market that can tax already limited IT resources, OpenScape Xpressions provides organizations with a flexible, yet simpler and more affordable UC option that is designed to require little set up, with attainable cost reduction and productivity benefits people have come to expect from UC," said Eve Aretakis, executive vice president for global product management and development at Siemens Enterprise Communications Group. "Organizations can now more easily put collaboration tools at the fingertips of their virtual enterprise users."

Xpressions not only helps employees as they work to get more done with fewer resources, it can help to reduce real estate costs by freeing workers from office desks and drive-time commutes, as well as keeping their mobile associates connected and in touch. These benefits not only provide an opportunity to save time and money but can also help meet public demands for greener enterprises with lower carbon footprints.
