Power TVS Devices suit high-power DC bus clamping applications.

Press Release Summary:

Respectively featuring bidirectional port protection of 58 and 76 V, PTVS6-058C-SH and PTVS6-076C-SH meet IEC 61000-4-5, 8/20 µsec current surge requirements in high-power DC clamping applications. Silicon-based technology lends to performance stability, reliability, and low clamping voltage under surge, while minimized lead inductance of SMD also helps reduce peak clamping voltage. RoHS compliant products offer typical maximum surge current at 150°C that exceeds 70% of rated value at 25°C.

Bourns' New 58 and 76 Volt Power TVS Devices Meet Stringent Surge Requirements in High Power DC Bus Clamping Applications

Offering Bidirectional Port Protection, New Devices Provide Lower Clamping Voltage under Surge, Greater Performance Stability and Reliability

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced the availability of two new high voltage Power Transient Voltage Suppressor (PTVS) devices, further expanding the line offered with SMD packaging to a total of 20 products. Featuring bidirectional port protection of 58 and 76 volts, the new PTVS devices meet stringent IEC 61000-4-5 8/20 µs current surge requirements in high-power DC clamping applications that include AC/DC power supplies exposed in outdoor environments and wireless base stations. Bourns designed its PTVS line with silicon-based technology that provides numerous advantages over typical competing MOV technology including lower clamping voltage under surge, greater performance stability and increased reliability.

Designs benefit from the new devices' SMD package, which delivers a reduction in peak clamping voltage compared to an equivalent through-hole device because of its lower lead inductance. The result is decreased electrical stress on the protected circuitry. SMD packaging can also reduce costs by eliminating the extra manufacturing step in designs where the PTVS diode is the only through-hole component on the printed circuit board. In addition, these new PTVS products offer an excellent surge response versus temperature; the typical maximum surge current at 150°C exceeds 70 percent of their rated value at 25°C.

"Giving our customers a broader range of repetitive standoff voltage options enables them to select the right PTVS device specifically matched to their protection design needs without interfering with normal power line operations. Bourns' PTVS solutions help address power supply uptime and maintenance cost concerns in applications that must operate outdoors or in harsh environmental conditions," said Ben Huang, product line manager at Bourns, Inc.
