Power Technology Announced as ECN Impact Awards Finalist

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Power Technology, Inc., a leader in the Photonics Industry for 45 years, has been named a finalist in the 2014 ECN Impact Awards in the category of Optoelectronics. Electronic Component News (ECN) is a global trade publication providing product information, news, and editorial to the electronic design community for more than 50 years. This year's finalists represent organizations across 18 categories that have shown excellence in engineering through electronic design and groundbreaking innovation.

Power Technology (PTI) was selected by a panel of independent judges for the innovation and impact of their HeCd replacement laser, the Concerto. The Concerto is the world's first and only commercial 442nm solid state HeCd replacement laser. PTI's advanced engineering makes it possible for this laser to deliver up to 150mW of actively stabilized single-frequency laser light with a spectral bandwidth of <5MHz. Competing technologies deliver a bandwidth of <150GHz and a typical coherence length of 1mm compared to >100m from the Concerto.

The Concerto provides an MTBF value of >12000 hours. Typical HeCd lasers require a complete tube refurbishment every 3000 hours depending on their original power output. Tube refurbishments can add up to approximately 75% of the original sales price of the HeCd laser. The Concerto has an initial capital investment similar to a gas laser but does not require re-tubing, providing a clear cost advantage over traditional gas lasers.

"We are extremely proud to be recognized as a leader in our field," stated Walter Burgess, Vice President of Sales and Engineering. "The Concerto is the end result of our dedication to developing a product that provides clear advantages in cost of ownership and ease of use over outdated gas laser technology."

The Concerto is ideal for applications in holography, security printing, spectroscopy, thin film analysis, flow visualization, optical data storage and semiconductor inspection.

ECN Impact Award Winners will be announced the evening of Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in Las Vegas, NV. For additional information, please visit www.ecnawards.com.
