Power Supply Controllers track up to 5 supplies.

Press Release Summary:

Models LTC2921 and LTC2922 utilize N-channel MOSFETs to assure that multiple power supplies ramp up at same time and same rate, protecting ASICs, processors, and other circuitry from lock-up or more severe damage. Following successful ramp-up, remote sense switches allow regulators to close loop around MOSFETs and compensate for voltage drop. Adjustable electronic circuit breaker monitors primary supply for over-current faults. Threshold accuracy is ±1%.

Power Supply Tracking Controllers Monitor up to Five Inputs and Include Remote Sense Switches

MILPITAS, CA - October 28, 2003 - Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC2921 and LTC2922, a pair of easy to use power supply tracking controllers for up to five, high current supplies. Tracking assures that multiple supplies ramp up at the same time and at the same rate protecting ASICs, processors and other circuitry from lock-up or more severe damage.

The input monitors assure supply integrity of five supplies (LTC2921) or five supplies (LTC2922) before ramping up the supplies. The devices utilize N-channel MOSFETs to assure that supplies track. Holding off the MOSFETs until all the supplies have exceeded their monitor threshold allows some supplies to be derived from others and still track when system power turns on.

Following successful ramp-up, remote sense switches allow the regulators to close the loop around the MOSFETs and compensate for their voltage drop. A circuit breaker monitors the primary supply for over-current faults. The LTC2921 and LTC2922 include a power-good output capable of driving another MOSFET and allowing sequencing of another supply.

The LTC2921 with five input monitors and three remote sense switches is available in the narrow SSOP-16 package. Pricing begins at $3.15 each in 1,000-piece quantities. The LTC2922 with five input monitors and five remote sense switches is available in the SSOP-20 package. Pricing begins at $3.40 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
