C&D Technologies Announces Two New Front-End Power Supplies

BLUE BELL, Pa., Aug. 4 / - C&D Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:CHP) has announced the availability of two new AC/DC front-end power supplies in response to the market demand for higher power density and lower energy consumption. The D1U 1600 watt version delivers up to 1600W (220VAC), 1200W (110VAC) from its 12V output and the D1U 1200 watt version delivers up to 1200W (220VAC), 900W (110VAC) from its 12V main output. The 1200 watt model boasts an industry leading 91% efficiency. The D1U units utilize proven topology and high-density DC/DC packaging techniques to maximize space efficiency and reduce heat generation in systems, lowering electricity costs.

Typical applications for both units include blade servers, a market that is currently growing at an estimated annual rate of over 17%, and workstations, storage systems, and other electronic equipment that utilize a 12V distributed power architecture. The highly efficient D1U's will result in significant savings for large server installations. For example, in a server farm using 1,000 x 1,600 watt power supplies, an increase in efficiency from 85% to 91% could result in an annual power saving of approximately 1 million kilowatt hours.

Other key features of these compact units include N+1 redundancy, hot- swapability, active current sharing on the main output, an I2C bus, status indicators and over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection.

"These new products deliver the high efficiency and power density, plus effective, integrated cooling that are essential requirements of the next generation of blade servers and other products," said Dr. Jeffrey Graves, President and Chief Executive Officer for C&D Technologies. "Our engineers have optimized these products electrically, mechanically and thermally to meet our customers' demanding expectations. With the increasing importance of energy efficiency to our end customers, and continuing growth of new data center installations, we anticipate increasing sales of this outstanding new product technology."
