New 300W, 1U KEPCO Power Supply is RoHS Compliant

Kepco is pleased to introduce a 300 Watt addition to its popular RTW series of single output, RoHS compliant power supplies. These supplies are ideal for new OEM designs in networking equipment and other products where low-profile, RoHS compliance and higher power are a must. The 300 Watt RTW model is available in seven models from 3.3 Volts to 48 Volts d-c output, has a height of 40 mm (fitting easily into a 1U high chassis) and is capable of full power operation up to 40 degrees Celsius ambient with no fan and no external forced air cooling required. Features include universal a-c input with active PFC (Power Factor Correction), remote on-off capability, remote error sensing, remotely programmable output voltage from 20%-110% of the rating and a current balance circuit for easy parallel redundant operation. These supplies also meet FCC Class B standards for conducted and radiated emissions.

Many industrial and particularly military applications require their electronics to withstand occasional extremes in ambient temperature. Two such examples might be powering outdoor LED signs (such as "Amber Alert" signs), traffic signals, and railroad crossing gates. In the military, second or third echelon military communications systems are obvious applications.

For switch-mode power supplies, there is an inherent problem in starting the oscillator (switch) at extremely low temperatures where the electrolyte in electrolytic capacitors has frozen. Kepco is pleased to report that its RKW programmable series of single output 300, 600 and 1500 Watt power supplies may be operated down to -40° C ambient temperature and also will start up at this temperature based on a 1-hour cold soak test. Ripple and noise may initially increase above published specifications below -10° C ambient until the circuit self-warms.

If the power supply will be repeatedly exposed to such conditions, Kepco strongly recommends that a factory-applied moisture proofing be ordered to protect against the effects of condensation inside the unit. At the high end of the temperature range, the RKW provide up to 40% of the rated output power at +74° C ambient.
