Power Resistors withstand harsh environmental conditions.

Press Release Summary:

Wirewound Series W20 features lead-free, vitreous enamel coating, which seals resistor element in glasslike material, making it impervious to harsh environments. Rated for 3, 5, 7, 10, and 14 W with limiting voltages between 100-750 V, units offer resistance of 0.1 Ω to 100 kΩ with standard tolerances down to +1%. Operating from -55 to +200°C with typical TCRs from +75 to +200 ppm/°C, resistors are suited for current inrush and surge protection circuits.

IRC Power Resistors Withstand Harsh Environmental Conditions

BOONE, NC (July 6, 2005) - For applications that require high surge capability and must operate in harsh environmental conditions, TT electronics IRC Wirewound and Film Technologies Division provides a comprehensive range of vitreous enamelled wirewound resistors. Designated as the W20 Series, their lead-free vitreous enamel coating allows the resistors to withstand the harsh environments and high temperatures found in industrial applications.

According to Keith Chipman, product manager for IRC's Wirewound and Film Technologies Division, the resistors' robust construction enhances its stability and reliable performance under extreme conditions. "The W20 series resistors' vitreous enamelled coating essentially seals the wirewound resistor element in a glasslike material that makes the device impervious to even the harshest environments," he explained.

"The protective coating and markings are resistant to all normal industrial cleaning solvents used for printed circuits."
The W20 Series resistors are ideal for current inrush and surge protection circuits for power supplies, motor controllers and circuit protectors, especially in applications subject to harsh environments, such as chemical processing machinery, welding equipment, industrial motor controls, and power generation systems.

The W20 Series resistors are rated for 3, 5, 7, 10, and 14W with limiting element voltages between 100 and 750V. Resistance ranges are 0.1 ohms to 100K ohms with standard tolerances down to +1%. Typical TCRs are between +75ppm/°C and +200ppm/°C, with an operating temperature range from -55°C to +200°C.

IRC will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.

The W20 Series resistor pricing begins at $0.29 each in quantities of 1000 with lead times from 10 to 12 weeks.
