Zultys Announces 24 Port Power Over Ethernet Swtich With -48 Vdc Input

Designed specifically for the small office, the EPS24 supplies power for 24 IP devices and eliminates mid span products.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., 24 June 2005 - Zultys Technologies today announced the release of the EPS24. This switch has 24 10/100 Ethernet ports and a 1 Gb/s fiber port. It provides industry standard power over Ethernet (PoE) on all copper ports. As with everything that Zultys manufactures, this product fully embraces open standards and therefore supports IEEE 802.3af.

The EPS24 can be used to power devices such as IP telephones, keyless entry systems, security cameras, and WiFi access points. The EPS24 is connected to any -48 volt supply such as the BPS12, a rack mounted battery system that Zultys introduced in November 2003. By using the combination of an EPS24 and a BPS12, such devices will remain powered in the event of failure of the ac power.

"This product has been designed primarily for telephony applications," said Patrick Ferriter, VP of product marketing at Zultys. "It provides smaller offices with high quality, high reliability communications at attractive prices. Now smaller businesses are not forced to make a compromise when needing telephony and security products that continue to operate when the power fails."

A single BPS12 can provide backup power for 24 phones, such as the Zultys ZIP 2x2, for five hours. The EPS24 supports layer two and layer three switching in hardware, making it one of the most advanced switches on the market today.

"This product has allowed us to provide economical backup for phones in business critical areas," said Arkady Rubinsteyn, CIO/CTO at BIR Training Center, a customer of Zultys based in Chicago, Illinois. "I am convinced of the benefits of a VoIP system but was not willing to sacrifice phone service when the ac power failed. The EPS24 has allowed me to continue to earn money even when there is a power outage."

Pricing and Availability:
List price for the EPS24 is $1,500 and the BPS12 is $1,400. The EPS24 is one rack mounting unit (RU) high and the BPS12 is 3RU. Each is available through certified Zultys resellers around the world.
