TI Introduces POLA(TM) Compatible SIP Power Modules for Intermediate Bus Architectures

DALLAS (May 13, 2005) -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) today announced two families of POLA(TM) compatible, non-isolated, plug-in power modules that are available in single in-line pin (SIP) packages. The flexible 8-A and 18-A point-of-load power modules support input voltages of 3.3-V, 5-V and 12-V. Additionally, the modules simplify power design in multi-voltage systems employing high-speed microprocessors, FPGAs, ASICs and TI's TMS320(TM) digital signal processors (DSPs) in an intermediate bus power architecture. See: www.ti.com/sc05114.

The PTVxx010 family of DC/DC converters combines high-performance and high power efficiency with double-sided, surface-mount construction. The 8-pin SIP footprint minimizes board space and offers an alternative package option for space-conscious applications, such as high-end computers and servers. The PTVxx010 provides step-down conversion to a wide range of output voltages, at up to 8-A of output current. The output voltage can be set any value between 0.8-V to 1.8-V, 2.5-V or 3.6-V, depending upon the device's input voltage.

In addition to the PTVxx010 series for 8-A, TI also introduced its PTVxx020 family of 12-pin SIP modules that support similar systems requiring output currents of up to 18-A. Both families include Auto-Track(TM) sequencing technology to simplify the task of supply-voltage sequencing in a power system by enabling the output voltage of multiple modules to accurately track each other, or any external voltage, during power up and power down.

POLA Compatibility
TI's PTH and PTV families of non-isolated plug-in modules are fully POLA-compatible.

Members of the POLA Alliance offer customers advanced, non-isolated modules with the same footprint and form factor. POLA parts are also ensured to be interoperable, providing customers with true second-source availability.

Availability, Packaging and Pricing
The PTVxx010 and PTVxx020 integrated power modules are available in volume today from TI and the company's authorized distributors. Suggested pricing for the PTVxx010 products is $6.90 per 1,000 units, and $11.60 for the PTVxx020 per 1,000 units. Evaluation modules, application notes, reference designs and TI's Power Management Selection Guide are available through power.ti.com.
