Power Inductor suits portable electronics applications.

Press Release Summary:

Lead-free DXM series employs magnetic component that collects, filters, and smoothes AC ripple current in DC circuits. Low-profile design minimizes board real estate requirements, maximizes power density, and provides co-planarity. Core material is not susceptible to thermal aging and provides MTBF of greater than one million hours of operation. With current handling ranges up to 30 A and inductance ranges of 0.20-10 µH, device utilizes 200°C insulation system.

New DXM Series of Power Inductors Provide High Current Capability for Switching Power Supplies and Portable Electronics Applications

MENLO PARK, CA-June 9, 2003- CoEv Magnetics, a unit of Tyco Electronics, announces their new DXM series of lead-free power inductors. The low voltage, high current inductor is designed for switching power supplies and portable electronics. The magnetic component collects, filters, and smoothes AC ripple current in DC circuits.

The inductor's low-profile design minimizes board real estate requirements and maximizes power density while providing excellent co-planarity. The design of the DXM Series reduces failure modes often found with plating and solder terminated wires and leads, and the multi-gap technology used to manufacture the device also reduces fringing flux and stray field emissions. The core material is not susceptible to thermal aging, and provides a MTBF of greater than one million hours of operation.

With current handling ranges of up to 30A, and inductance ranges of 0.20 µH to 10 µH, the DXM series was developed to assist power supply design engineers with designing more power efficient circuits in high power applications. The lead-free device utilizes a 200°C insulation system and is well suited for operating in environments with a -40°C to 155°C temperature range. It is currently available in a 13mm x 13mm x 6.0mm size.

"The DXM series of inductors allow for better reflow solderability and higher current handling capability than other low-profile solutions," said Terry VanConant, Power Magnetics Product Manager for Tyco Electronics Power Components. "The device's high temperature withstand and reduced roll-off at high currents makes it suitable for laptops, industrial controls, and other extreme environments," he added.
