Electro-Mech's Compact Hall-Effect I.C.-Based Potentiometer Switch Offers Dual Control Options

SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif., Dec. 3, 2001 -- Electro-Mech's new SW44109 Hall-effect potentiometer switch offers both rotary and digital regulation for maximum operation control in a compact size. A one or two sealed, Hall-effect integrated circuit combined with a 295° linear (S) taper potentiometer enables the user to specify a value so that at the push of a button, the circuit or channel automatically opens at the preset level.

Featuring a non-lighted momentary pushbutton switch, the SW44109 utilizes translucent knobs illuminated when used with an edge-lit panel. Typical applications for the SW44109 switch include industrial/avionics displays and audio controls, instrument panel controls, and other high-density panels.

Lightweight and compact, the new switch weighs less than one ounce and measures less than one square inch. The SW44109 requires only 2" of space behind the display panel and is easy to mount via a 1/4" diameter threaded bushing and hex nut. PCB interface is provided via front facing PC pins that plug into through-hole board circuitry, enabling board location immediately behind the display panel.

The SW44109 requires a 3.8-volt minimum supply voltage and 5mA maximum supply current. Output leakage current is 5µA maximum and potentiometer resistance is 100K ohm +5%. Other features provided by the SW44109 include snap-feel momentary switching with an operating pressure of 35 oz. (± 5 oz.), plunger travel of approximately 0.060", and a rated switch life of 100,000 minimum actuations.

Unit pricing is $78.50 at 100 pieces with delivery of 12 weeks ARO. Complete specifications are available on request.
