FLORENCE, KY (July, 2003) - Balluffs proven P-Style profile-version Micropulse magnetostrictive linear positioning transducers are now available with on-request absolute quadrature output, giving designers a more rugged and reliable option to glass scales, potentiometers and LVDTs. Unlike ordinary incremental encoders with external "homing" switch, the Micropulse's P-Style absolute quadrature output features a remotely triggered "Burst Mode" that rapidly delivers an accumulated pulse string to provide absolute position feedback upon request, eliminating the need to re-home after a power
loss or cycle interrupt. The absolute quadrature output interfaces directly to standard encoder inputs (90° out-of-phase and A&B) and can operate in synchronous or free-running modes for maximum control system compatibility.
The flexible P-Style transducer with absolute output offers selectable position resolution (1, 2, 5, 10, or 50 m; 0.001. 0.0005 or 0.0001") and pulse frequencies (10, 208, 416, and 833 kHz). The P-Style works with both captive and floating magnet styles and is available in stroke lengths from 51 mm to 3.6 m to fit a wide range of motion control applications. Non-contact magnetostrictive technology provides extremely accurate, wear-free position feedback and features non-linearity of ±0.02% over 500 mm stroke.
The P-Style has an anodized aluminum housing which combines easy installation with rugged design and IP67 rating for reliable performance in sensor unfriendly environments. It reliably works in temperatures ranging from -40 to 185°F.
The Micropulse P-Style operates on 10-30V and is UL-approved and CE-rated. It is available with MS-style connector or 2, 5, 10, 15-m PUR cable-out versions for maximum installation flexibility.
Absolute quadrature output is also available on the Micropulse rod-style Z housing (operating at 24V or +/- 15V), which is ideal for precise positioning on hydraulic cylinders, injection molding machines, presses, woodworking machinery, packaging machines and leveling applications.
