Magnetostrictive Position Sensor Integrates Electronics within IP67 Housing
CARY, N.C. (September 23, 2003) - MTS Sensors unveils its new CSPI (integrated) magnetostrictive position sensor at ICUEE, in Louisville, KY, September, 2003. Designed for rugged linear position sensing applications, the CSPI sensor incorporates all its electronics within an IP67 rated metal housing. This simplifies installation and because the sensor is manufactured as a high-volume unit using its automotive sensing components, MTS is able to price the CSPI at levels well below industrial versions.
"This sensor was created for OEM designers who are searching for the reliability and accuracy of magnetostriction without the added installation requirement of remote electronics," said Commercial Product Manager, Jesse Russell. "This is made possible by incorporating all the essential electronics of our remote products within a low intrusion, but moderately larger sensor head."
The CSPI sensor provides both PWM and analog voltage outputs. Pigtail cables are available in standard 1 meter lengths and optionally in longer lengths. Standard measurement stroke lengths are 72.3, 109.5, 128.3, 148.0, 162.3, 186.3, 192.3, 194.3, 217.3 and 250.1mm. In order to meet higher temperature requirements, IP67 CSPI sensors are rated to operate in temperatures ranging from -40ºC to +105ºC.
MTS, the inventor of magnetostrictive technology, provides no wear, non-contact reliability and absolute position reliability in a package that will fit most harsh environment, cost-sensitive applications. CSPI commercial sensors eliminate wear as might be found with other contact-type devices under regular shock, vibration and high-cycle wear. They also eliminate the drift common in inductive devices while featuring one-time, set-and-forget calibration. Magnetostrictive technology is capable of multiple position measurements and rotary alone or rotary and linear solutions.
