New Suitcase(TM) X-TREME(TM) 12VS Portable Wire Feeder Provides Superior ARC Starts, Extreme Durability

- Easy to open case, operator-friendly drive roll system
- Higher duty cycle
- Soft Start(TM) run-in control for smooth arc starts
- The toughest case in the industry

APPLETON, Wis., February 1, 2005-To improve wire welding performance in portable applications, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has introduced its new SuitCase(TM) X-TREME(TM) 12VS voltage-sensing wire feeder. Compared to the previous model, the new SuitCase X-TREME offers improved short circuit MIG welding performance, an improved contactor for higher duty cycle (now 425 amps at 60 percent), superior arc starts through its Soft Start(TM) run-in control and improved durability with a potted and trayed main printed circuit board and double-filtered gas valve that helps keep dirt from affecting gas flow.

Compared to competitive machines, "I've got more arc control with the SuitCase X-TREME, and it makes a world of difference. It gives me a much smoother arc start without popping or flaring at the start of the weld," says Jeremy Bohm, owner of JR's Welding, a heavy construction and agricultural equipment repair shop in Pulaski, Wis. He adds, "I like the way this feeder opens up because you don't have to tip it over to change the wire. The drive rolls are very easy to adjust, too. The process of changing spools is much faster with the X-TREME than with other feeders I've used."

The SuitCase X-TREME 12VS weighs 35 lbs., holds wire spools up to 12-in. (45 lbs.) and features SunVision(TM) digital meters that display voltage and wire feed speed or amperage, and are visible even in direct sunlight. Its two fully-driven drive rolls provide positive feeding performance with solid wires from .023 to 5/64 in. and cored wires from .030 to 5/64 in. To further enhance wire feed and welding performance, Miller recommends pairing this feeder with a Bernard Q-Gun and using Bernard Centerfire(TM) consumables.

Featuring a polypropylene case, the toughest available in the industry, the X-TREME is designed for use in construction, shipbuilding, heavy manufacturing and rental applications.

"One side of the feeder features molded-in slide rails, so operators can literally drag the feeder like it's on a leash and they won't damage the case," says Miller product manager Mike Vandenberg. "We put the SuitCase X-TREME feeder through reliability tests so extreme that competitive feeders can't survive them, but ours continued to weld flawlessly."

The SuitCase X-TREME operates on arc voltages ranging from 14 to 48 volts DC with a max OCV rating of 110VDC, and can be connected to both constant voltage (CV) and constant current (CC) power sources. Even when connected to CC power sources, the SuitCase X-TREME provides good short circuit MIG performance.

The feeder is not polarity sensitive, so it eliminates the need to change polarity with a switch inside the feeder. Trigger hold comes standard to increase operator comfort when making long welds, while optional controls include pre-flow and post-flow at the beginning and end of the weld to improve shielding gas coverage.

The SuitCase X-TREME 12VS is covered by Miller's True-Blue® three-year warranty. To download a spec sheet, visit Miller's Web site at MillerWelds.com.
