New, Full-Featured Surftest® SJ-500 Portable Roughness Tester Calculates Latest Parameters

(Aurora, IL) Mitutoyo America Corporation announces availability of the new Surftest® SJ-500 portable surface roughness tester. With high accuracy (straightness = 0.20 µm/50mm), fast drive speed (max. 20mm/s) and a configuration suitable for either hand-held or fixtured-in-place operation, the Mitutoyo SJ-500 is the new value leader in its class.

The Surftest SJ-500 calculates numerous form analyses - Steps, uneven steps, slope, uneven area, circle, angle, coordinate difference. 46 different ISO, ANSI, DIN, and JIS parameters including ISO 1302:2002 requirements are available. Simple input features can be created using drawing symbols (patent pending). The resulting flexibility and high throughput make the Surftest SJ-500 ideal for surface roughness testing of workpieces such as piston rings, bearing races, precision molds, IC components and similar items.

The SJ-500 utilizes a dedicated control unit with easy-to-read color display and a built-in, high-speed thermal printer capable of printing BAC or ADC curves in landscape format, just as they appear on the display. Fine positioning, is easily accomplished using joystick control. The Surftest SJ-500 uses interchangeable nosepieces that enable either skid- or skidless measurement.
