Immersion Ships New High-accuracy MicroScribe® Systems

Easy, portable, and affordable parts inspection and reverse engineering

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 4, 2005 Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq: IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced that it has shipped its first MicroScribe MX portable measurement systems to customers and resellers. The new products, with accuracies of 0.004- and 0.005-inch, can be used for manufactured parts inspection and high-accuracy reverse engineering.

"The new MicroScribe MX system should do well," said Hugh Humphreys, president of Delcam plc, maker of PowerINSPECT software used for inspection. "There is definitely a need in the inspection and reverse engineering market for a well priced product that is easy to use."

The new systems can be used with many common CAD/CAM software applications including Delcam's PowerINSPECT and PowerSHAPE, Robert McNeel & Associates' Rhinoceros, Revware's RevWorks, Creative Dezign Concepts' DezignWorks, and multiple plug-ins from HighRES, Inc. These packages either natively support MicroScribe functionality or seamlessly integrate the tool via a plug-in product.

"The fact that the MicroScribe MX systems integrate with so many software packages is a key feature for inspection and reverse engineering applications. We are supplying a great deal of choice, far greater than our competitors, so that users can retain software that's right for their business. MicroScribe systems will likely work with what they already know and use," said Mike Zuckerman, senior vice president and general manager, Immersion's Industrial business group.

In support of its customers, Immersion has promoted Bill Hoverter to senior director, 3D Worldwide Sales and retained additional experienced personnel who will manage expanding worldwide sales channels. Steve Sattler, director of sales, Americas, will operate out of Immersion's headquarters in San Jose, California. Dag Iversen, director of sales, Europe, will be based in Frankfurt, Germany.

"Our focus will be on showing how the MicroScribe MX system provides a fast return on investment by streamlining difficult, time-consuming, and inefficient operations to verify design conformity. There are numerous chances for error and misinterpretation when inspections and measurements are notated by hand. The MicroScribe MX system provides an affordable and paperless solution, and one that's far easier to use than other larger articulated arm systems," concluded Zuckerman.
