NextComputing's Newest Flextop Models Offer High-Throughput Data

NASHUA, N.H. - March 15, 2007 - NextComputing's NextDimension Evo series of flextop computers provide the greatest number of hard drive configuration options available in a small, lightweight, portable form factor. These configurations lend themselves to high-speed data streaming applications and open up new business possibilities for sophisticated PCI card manufacturers. The Evo models combine 3 key elements for maximum data throughput rates: modular I/O options, high performance processing, and maximum storage capacity.

Though the technology marketplace continues to trend toward mobile computing, today's laptops cannot accommodate the PCI cards needed for most data streaming applications. NextComputing's line of portable, flextop computers provides the I/O options and performance required to manipulate data quickly and efficiently. The Evo models allow users to obtain fast sustained read/write rates, while maintaining the convenience of laptop-like portability.

Sophisticated PCI and PCI Express cards, like those used in high-throughput data streaming, often have application specific processors and memory. To maximize the effectiveness of these cards, systems must incorporate extreme CPU performance and multiple, modular drive configurations with RAID off-load capabilities. Applications utilizing sophisticated I/O typically take data in at a rapid rate, manipulate it, store it real-time, or generate data and simulated traffic out. The Evo allows you to transfer these multiple simultaneous data streams with its RAID off-load capabilities and multiple disk configurations. The NextDimension Evo is the smallest and only portable computer available with this capability.

"The modular design of the NextDimension Evo and Evo HD models opens up all sorts of possibilities for high-throughput data streaming. The system's small size lends itself to being used as a portable studio, sniffer, traffic generator, recorder, and as a smaller alternative for just about any data manipulation application. It also opens up new business opportunities for the manufacturers of sophisticated PCI cards to create an OEM all-in-one solution that maximizes the functionality of their cards. This is an area where we are seeing a great deal of interest already," explains Bob Labadini, President and CTO of NextComputing.

The NextDimension Evo and Evo HD incorporate up to (4) high performance PCI or PCIe slots. Used in combination with the modular architecture of the system, including (2) hot-swappable HDDs; up to (12) 2.5" accessible 7200RPM SATA drives; (5) additional 2.5" drives if the NextPak option is added; and support for RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5; the NextDimension Evo and Evo HD provide sustained read/write rates comparable to those of much larger, stationary systems. Currently, the Evo is powered by up to (2) dual core AMD Opteron(TM) processors and will continue to increase functionality with newer multi-core technology. NextComputing also maintains an edge with the most advanced hard drive options available through its close relationship with Seagate Technology.

A number of industries can benefit from the technology NextComputing brings to its Evo models. For instance, as a portable sniffer or traffic generator, the Evo enables rapid response rates for high speed data monitoring applications. Additionally, the Evo HD is ideal as a portable production studio for the broadcast industry. Finally, high-def display applications, across any industry, require close to real-time data output, a priority made mobile with the Evo or Evo HD.

The Evo's configuration options are an integral part of the flextop's modular architecture, creating an expandable solution, with capability far exceeding that of a laptop.
