New Hazard-Resistant Portable PC Announced

HOUSTON, February 11 - A new fully portable industrial PC, designed specifically for reliable operation in harsh conditions, has been announced by Omnicomp Systems, Inc. It offers performance features formerly available only in expensive military-grade portable PCs, at a lower price. This new computer is an addition to Omnicomp's "FieldPro"(TM) industrial PC line, and incorporates features which make it especially suited for use in situations where utility, portability and hazard resistance are required at an affordable price. It has been designated the FieldPro 7000 industrial PC.

An identifying feature of the new PC is its integral fifteen-inch XGA display. Screen luminance (twelve hundred nits) makes it bright enough to be read easily in full sunlight. Many portable industrial PC users require special circuitry for specific applications. To meet this need, the FieldPro 7000 has the capacity to house four full-length ISA/PCI plug-in cards internally. This is often a requirement for PCs used in field and factory environments for support of calibration, telecommunications, transportation, network testing and other dedicated systems. Operational integrity is also enhanced through its capability to protect the computer and accessory boards from physical damage.

For users searching for a cost effective solution to the need for a hazard-resistant, high reliability PC, the FieldPro 7000 computer is a likely prospect. Field proven, operator friendly, utilizing high quality standard components, this computer provides many required features at a reasonable price. FieldPro 7000 industrial computers are manufactured and marketed by Omnicomp Systems, Inc., Houston. In addition to the sun-bright display and capacity to house four full-size plug-in cards, standard models are equipped with a sealed keyboard and pointing device, to withstand exposure to liquids and particulates. Units are resistant to vibration, shock, temperature and humidity conditions which cause normal PCs to fail. Other standard features include the Intel(R) Pentium(R) III 800 MHz microprocessor, one 10 GB hard drive, one 1.44 Mbyte floppy, CD ROM drive, and 128 MB RAM, expandable to 512 MB. A factory installed 120 MB removable drive is also available.

FieldPro 7000 computers are equipped with ten I/O ports: one serial, two parallel, two USB, one 10/100 Ethernet, one sound blaster compatible audio, video out, and connections for using an external keyboard and mouse. Their internal power supply accepts both AC (85-250v) and DC (10-30v). An internal battery, charged whenever external power is connected, functions as an uninterruptable power supply. Front panel displays show charge level of the battery and source of external power.

Omnicomp Systems, Inc. is a Texas Corporation, based in Houston since 1982. The company focuses its product offerings on meeting the specialized requirements of users who require rugged, high performance PC platforms for applications in diverse fields.
