SRI Sarnoff Introduces Portable Iris on the Move® Camera System for Identity Enrollment and Authentication

RapID-Cam II enables quick and easy biometric identity verification

MENLO PARK, Calif., -- SRI Sarnoff has introduced the Iris on the Move (IOM) RapID-Cam II, a handheld, biometric enrollment and identity verification camera system. The self-contained camera can enroll subjects into the database by capturing dual-iris and facial images in less than 30 seconds. Once subjects are enrolled, the system verifies identity in less than one second.

"The IOM RapID-Cam II provides an accurate, mobile biometric solution for field operations at a price point that does not currently exist in the marketplace," said Mark Clifton, vice president, Products and Services Division at SRI Sarnoff. "With its unprecedented standoff range and tolerance for operator or subject motion, the RapID-Cam II delivers an advanced level of security and convenience."

The RapID-Cam II can easily be operated using one hand, and puts the body of the user at a comfortable distance from the subject. In addition, the camera is capable of accessing local and networked databases wirelessly for subject identification, and supports multiple back-end algorithms. The portable device allows for numerous security applications -- from pre-registering individuals as they wait in line at an entertainment venue or military checkpoint to enabling police officers on patrol to quickly identify subjects of interest.
