GuardianEdge Introduces New Version of Device Control Product to Further Prevent Data Leakage

Port Protection Thwarts Outbound Data Leakage and Malicious Inbound Malware Attacks

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 27 - GuardianEdge, the leading provider of endpoint data protection for the enterprise, today released GuardianEdge Device Control Version 2.0. This best-in-class solution enables enterprises to protect their endpoints from the threats of outbound data leakage and inbound malware attacks through storage devices. With comprehensive and easy-to-use policies that restrict users' ability to access the physical and wireless ports of their computers and the devices that connect to them, GuardianEdge Device Control ensures that data does not leak off of endpoints.

"In today's environment of USB, WiFi, FireWire, Bluetooth, and iPod-type devices, it's advisable for all organizations to deploy scalable, policy-based controls across their network of enterprise PCs. IT managers need access to approved external connected devices for day-to-day operations and to be able to prevent data loss management of these resources," said Jerry Murtland, information security manager at Grange Insurance. "Another key element is the ability to centrally manage and monitor access control and prevent unauthorized transfer of data while also protecting trade secrets, intellectual property and the private information of customers and employees."

GuardianEdge Device Control is a critical part of the overall GuardianEdge Data Protection Platform, which is aimed at reducing the potential for data security gaps through the alignment and integration of data protection policies, while minimizing the costs of administration and support.

"Today's companies are at serious risk of experiencing a major data leakage if they continue to allow unrestricted access to devices and external or internal ports. Without GuardianEdge protection, a malicious user simply has to plug a USB device into an unprotected computer, access and download confidential information, and walk away with data that may ultimately cost an organizations millions of dollars," said Ram Krishnan, GuardianEdge senior vice president of products and marketing. "GuardianEdge Device Control makes it easy for enterprises to manage and control access to their endpoints based on multiple factors such as device model or file type."

This major product revision contains several significant new features to extend the product's capabilities in data classification, leakage prevention, auditing and centralized management. These include:

o File Type Control - Allows users to set and control which of the approximately 200 built-in file types are allowed to be read from and written to devices.
o File Shadowing - Allows administrators to target specific computers, or groups of computers, to log file movement and/or to mirror a copy of all data (or only selected file types). The shadowed files are then sent to a central repository. This provides data for eDiscovery and evidence for auditing and control of protected data.
o CD/DVD Media White Lists - Gives users detailed control of the specific CDs/DVDs that are allowed to be installed or viewed on enterprise machines, preventing the threats of inappropriate content and software.
o Internal Port Logging and Alerting -- In addition to external port control, GuardianEdge Device Control now provides alerts and logs when users attach devices to internal ports, including IDE, SCSI, ATA, SATA, PCI, and PCI-X thereby facilitating administrative actions to prevent data leakage.
o Novell(R) eDirectory(TM) and Native Policy Integration - GuardianEdge Device Control now supports Novell(R) eDirectory(TM) as well as Microsoft(R) Active Directory(TM) for environments where Novell(R) eDirectory(TM) is the preferred identity and directory service management tool.
o Internal or External SQL Database Support - Gives users the option to use the internal SQL database provided with the product, or an external customer-provided SQL database for increased scalability, flexibility and easier administration.

The new GuardianEdge Device Control version is available and shipping now. Customers with earlier versions of GuardianEdge Device Control will be automatically upgraded to the new version at no charge.
