PolyOne Helps Victorinox Enhance Ergonomics and Consumer Appeal of Original Swiss Army(TM) Knife

DÃœSSELDORF, Germany – PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, announced today at K 2013 (Hall 8a / Stand J13) that Victorinox, manufacturer of the Original Swiss Army™ Knife, has teamed up with PolyOne to improve the appearance, chemical resistance, mechanical performance, and ergonomics of its world-famous knives. PolyOne expertise and specialty material solutions are helping to further reinforce the brand's reputation for durability and quality to drive increased market share and consumer satisfaction.

"The stellar reputation of Victorinox is due to the quality of our products, and so we demand the highest standards from our suppliers. PolyOne is a valuable team member in supporting Victorinox as we strive to maintain and increase our high level of quality as well as adapt to the evolving needs of our customers," said Peter Anderhub, head of plastic injection molding at Victorinox.

"Our cooperation with Victorinox has been extremely positive, and we are pleased to help such a famous brand maintain the very high quality of its products," commented Holger Kronimus, vice president Europe and general manager, Specialty Engineered Materials, Europe at PolyOne.

PolyOne supplies Victorinox with multiple solutions for the company's world-famous pocket knives. One knife model, for instance, includes a specialty engineered thermoplastic (Bergamid™ polyamide-based formulation) for the handle as well as a thermoplastic elastomer (GLS OnFlex™ TPE) for better grip and aesthetics. At the PolyOne Innovation Center facility in Gaggenau, Germany, formulation experts tested the hard/soft material combination to confirm its durability after application development experts, working with the Victorinox design team, recommended these two solutions. PolyOne also supplies Victorinox with custom formulations of Edgetek™ high performance materials, which bring durability, superior surface quality and improved tactility.

"Our collaboration with Victorinox is an excellent example of how our PolyOne Innovation Centers can help customers meet specific design objectives, enhance consumer appeal and drive global growth," added Kronimus.
