PEEK-HT(TM) Polymer Delivers Extended High-Temperature Performance
Greenville, SC -- Victrex USA has introduced PEEK-HT(TM), a unique high performance polymer, for applications requiring superior high-temperature resistance such as head lamp reflectors, aircraft components, sub sea connectors, heat exchanger parts and industrial valve linings. With a glass transition temperature of 315°F (157°C) and a melting temperature of 703°F (373°C), this semi-crystalline, unreinforced polymer offers all the key characteristics of standard PEEK(TM) polymer including toughness, strength and chemical resistance.
According to Kevin Jennings, General Manager for Victrex North America, "With its ease of processing, high-precision reproducibility and long-term product reliability, PEEK-HT(TM) polymer is a premium material that is a cost-effective and lightweight alternative to metals."
PEEK-HT(TM) polymer's high-temperature performance surpasses that of standard PEEK(TM) polymer. "It has the ability to retain mechanical and physical properties to temperatures more than 50°F higher than standard PEEK(TM) polymer," explains Jennings. "Plus, it has up to three times the wear resistance at high temperatures."
Additional benefits include long-term creep and fatigue resistance over a wide temperature range. "The polymer also has a substantially higher tensile strength and flexural modulus at 482°F (250°C) versus standard PEEK(TM) polymer," says Jennings.
PEEK-HT(TM) polymer has been tested and commercially proven in down hole and sub sea environments. "For example," says Jennings. "It has been specified for the body of a Greene Tweed & Co. 8-pin connector used in oil field exploration and production where it offers long-term product reliability after prolonged exposure to extreme temperature and pressure levels. And, because the connector is injected molded as a single component, product failure problems associated with assembly and secondary operations were eliminated."
