Amdocs Announces Industry's First Policy Control Solution for Voice over LTE (VoLTE)

Amdocs VoLTE Controller enables HD-quality voice services; features rapid deployment model

BERLIN -- At the Policy Control Conference, Amdocs (NASDAQ: DOX), the leading provider of customer experience systems and services, today announced the availability of Amdocs VoLTE Controller, a standards-based, virtualized policy control and charging rule function (PCRF) solution specifically designed to support the stringent feature requirements that enable a high definition (HD) quality and differentiated VoLTE experience. Already supporting VoLTE services at a Tier-1 North American operator, Amdocs has also been selected for policy control support of VoLTE by a European Tier-1 service provider.

By leveraging the Amdocs VoLTE Controller as a dedicated PCRF solution for VoLTE, service providers can deploy it alongside legacy PCRF systems, which can continue to support basic policy needs such as fair usage control.  With VoLTE features already proven in Tier 1 networks, and further enhanced to include additional services, the Amdocs VoLTE Controller supports key IP voice requirements that go beyond guaranteed quality of service (QoS), to encompass emergency call prioritization, voice roaming with QoS assurance, voice call reliability with session geo-redundancy, and differentiated IP voice services for flexible service plan bundling and customer-specific services.

Based on the industry-proven and widely deployed Amdocs Policy Controller, this new solution can operate in a dedicated hardware environment or as a virtualized appliance, with pre-packaged services for rapid deployment in two months, and features ease of scalability to support the expected 10-fold increase in signaling that comes with VoLTE.

"Heavy Reading research revealed that more than 70 percent of operators believe their existing policy control systems will require additional features or upgrades to meet the stringent requirements for VoLTE," said Graham Finnie, chief analyst at Heavy Reading.  "Specialized policy solutions that can co-exist with legacy PCRFs will allow operators to leverage existing investments, and could give them a time to market advantage for VoLTE service introduction."

"Landline services have set the bar for voice and service providers are challenged to meet and exceed those expectations with VoLTE," said Rebecca Prudhomme, vice president of product and solutions marketing at Amdocs.  "This solution extends policy control for VoLTE with its extensive support for emergency call services, voice roaming and other critical voice service attributes; having a specialized PCRF solution, designed with the rigors of VoLTE in mind, is vital for operators seeking to differentiate next-generation voice services over LTE."
