New Point Drill Insert from Walter: The High Performance, Cost Effective Approach to Cast Iron Drilling

The new insert has an innovative design providing minimal run-out, stable positioning and a high performance coating for greater wear resistance and toughness.

Waukesha, WI -- Walter has unveiled the P6005-WKK45C point drill insert that brings new levels of performance and cost effectiveness to the drilling of cast materials (ISO K) as well as other materials. The P6005-WKK45C insert advantage begins with its design which features a new high-performance geometry for maximum productivity in cast iron materials, and 110° prismatic seat for minimal run-out and stable positioning. Its chamfered corners enhance stability in abrasive conditions, plus improve resistance to wear.

The P6005-WKK45C point drill insert features a new high-performance coating specially developed for increasing wear resistance with cast materials. This thicker coating also has enhanced toughness due to its multi-layer structure. This provides alternate layers of hard wear, heat and abrasive resistance. The tough material also improves shock resistance.

The inserts, which are color coded for easy selection and wear detection, have shown tool life increases of up to 100% in field tests, as well as increased process reliability, and improved machine utilization due to reduced tool change. Importantly, this results in a lower cost of operation.
