Phihong Develops POE Midspans for Simple Network Management Protocol

Midspans for SNMP power multiple devices, maintain information integrity...

FREMONT, Calif. (September 26, 2006) - Phihong, a global leader in Power-over-Ethernet solutions, now offers midspans with Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for use in managed networks. The SNMP protocol enables network administrators to manage and monitor networks, and remotely diagnose and solve any network problems.

"SNMP-capable midspans give IT managers the ability to remotely turn phones, access points, and other devices on and off, allowing customers to save energy and reduce expenses," said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. "Our SNMP device is also enabled with the capability to send traps when a device overloads or shuts down, allowing manufacturers to receive alarms, even when in remote locations."

Available in 1-, 8-, 16- and 24-port versions, Phihong's midspans provide 15.4W of power per port. The midspan will full power to all ports, so there is no need to calculate which devices to connect.

Phihong's midspans are a cost-effective, easy-to-implement solution for powering VoIP applications. Phihong's midspans give VoIP systems full power as soon as they are plugged in and turned on, with no complex set-up process required.

Power-over-Ethernet allows both power and data to be carried over a single Ethernet cable, enabling a device to operate entirely from the power it receives through the data cable. This eliminates the need for an electrician or wet location power outlets, so security cameras can be mounted and located anywhere.

Phihong is one of the leading suppliers of power solutions to networking OEMs, including power supplies, adapters and Power-over-Ethernet products. With global sales for 2006 expected to exceed $450 million, Phihong has engineering and manufacturing facilities in North and South America, Taiwan and mainland China.
