Bosch Launches Second Generation PS20 12v Max Pocket Driver

Upgraded Pocket Driver Features 25% More Speed and Torque

Mount Prospect, Ill., July 16, 2008 - When Bosch Power Tools & Accessories unveiled its convenient and lightweight PS20 Pocket Driver in 2006, the company did more than launch a new product. Bosch created a completely new category of power tools. Users fell in love with the unprecedented combination of robust, pro-caliber power and a chassis that could literally fit in most pockets. The success of the Litheon(TM)-powered PS20 also spawned variations on the ultra-compact theme - namely Bosch's PS10 I-Driver and PS40 Impactor.

This year, Bosch takes the evolution of its ultra-compact product family one step further with the introduction of the second-generation PS20 Pocket Driver. Featuring substantial upgrades in every meaningful measure, Bosch's re-interpretation of the PS20, not to mention the company's stature as the only producer of multiple tools in the category, is poised to remind users everywhere why Bosch remains the global leader in the ultra-compact power tool category.

"The great thing about the popularity of the original Pocket Driver was the opportunity it gave us to gather feedback from many different types of users," says Bosch group product manager Edwin Bender. "The new PS20 reflects that feedback and enables Bosch to make the best-selling ultra-compact tool even better."

Increases in speed and torque were among the key upgrades requested by PS20 users, and Bosch's new tool delivers. The second-generation PS20 features 100 inch-pounds of torque and a 500-RPM operating speed, both measures representing 25 percent increases versus the original tool.

Bosch also built in a few improvements specifically aimed at making the PS20 more productive on the job. With the only magnetized driving bit holder in its class, the PS20 now supports the insert bits that almost every user has in his/her toolbox.

In addition to the improvements, Bosch's new PS20 retains all of the qualities that made the original so popular and does so at the same cost as the original ($129 typical retail). The unparalleled ergonomic grip is still there, as are the robust metal "10+1" clutch ring, bright LED work light and locking ¼" universal bit holder - all in a package that weighs less than two pounds.

Users can also still count on quick 30-minute charge times and unparalleled battery life from the proven 12V Max Litheon(TM) battery platform. Bosch now refers to its ultra-compact Litheon battery platform as "12V Max." The change is due to lithium ion battery voltage ratings that have been adopted in the marketplace since Bosch first introduced its ultra-compact Litheon products in 2006. The new terminology, which replaces 10.8V, is meant to reduce confusion in the marketplace by clearly identifying tools that are rated at maximum voltage (i.e. 12V) rather than nominal voltage (i.e. 10.8V) by using the "Max" designator. Bosch's 12V Max Litheon batteries are 100% compatible with all past and future Bosch ultra-compact tools.

The second-generation PS20 Pocket Driver comes with two 12V Max Litheon batteries, a 30-minute quick charger and a sturdy canvas carrying bag. The PS20 is covered by Bosch's standard cordless power tool warranty and is eligible to be registered in the Bosch ProVantage 3-Year Protection Plan. It will be available through authorized Bosch distributors nationwide this summer. To find out more, users may visit www.boschtools.com or call 877-BOSCH-99.
