Original Press Release:

Cylinders Feature In-Process Quality Control

TOX®-PRESSOTECHNIK of Warrenville, Illinois offers a complete cylinder program for assembly and manufacturing processes with worldwide service and engineering support. The TOX®-Powerpackage pneumatic operated cylinders are now available with a press monitoring system to control the process quality. The press monitoring system EPW controls up to 10 work-pieces per second. The EPW system can be used in fully automated production lines, as well as manual tasks. Quick work-piece changes are no problem. Up to 32 work-piece-specific parameter sets are available, which can be controlled by PLC or by menu. The screen provides a large contrast-rich display for curves and diagnostics. The EPW is loaded with 5 different types of windows, which help in the universal evaluation of different types of curves. The cylinders are available with load cells attached to the working rod and displacement transducers, either external or integrated into the cylinder as shown on the photograph.

Typical applications include assembly, pressing, riveting, coining, staking, crimping, punching, shearing, de-gating, marking, swaging, calibrating, trimming, and the company's own patented TOX®- sheet metal joining system that replaces riveting and spot welding in many applications.

The TOX®-Powerpackage cylinders operate with shop air. Capacities range from 1 ton to 200 tons of force. The cylinders feature a purely pneumatic fast approach with low impact, resulting in tool savings. These cylinders are energy efficient with savings up to 90% compared to straight pneumatic cylinders. Similar savings can be achieved with the TOX®-Powerpackage cylinder compared to hydraulic systems. When the rod meets resistance, at any point of the approach stroke, the cylinder shifts automatically into the powerstroke. The return stroke can be activated by a variety of signals depending on the application. For example, in riveting, coining or marking applications, the return stroke can be activated by a pressure switch to provide precise and consistent output forces. A large variety of control packages are available, from a basic two-hand, anti-tie-down to PLC driven controls for automated assembly. Also, controls are available with CE certification. In addition, a complete press program is available to complement the cylinders.
