Original Press Release:

Pneumatic Dead-Length 5C Collet Block has Fail-Safe Operation

Hardinge blends unique design elements with the Hardinge world-renowned 5C threaded-nose spindle for a fail-safe workholding solution. This new, air-open, spring-to-close 5C Collet Block bolts to the machine table or sub-plate with the capability to hold an amazing range of parts. Standard 5C collets, step chucks, internal Sure-Grip collets and manual chucks will thread into the spindle nose for increased machining capabilities.

Air is required during setup whether using a single collet block or a sub-plate full of collet blocks. After setup, a unique spring design holds the workpiece at an 1800 lb. optimum 5C drawbar force without the use of air. This results in maintained concentricity, eliminating scrap if loss of air should occur. Collet travel is adjustable with a simple turn of a wrench offering less wear to the collet as compared to conventional designs.

Modular units can be used vertically or horizontally for machining or assembly operations. Modular units will connect to a single airline, but have separate valves for controlled workpiece concentricity during setup. Custom sub-plates, modular setups, valve assemblies and special collets can be manufactured to your individual requirements.

You can expect more from Hardinge. The Hardinge 5C Collet Block offers more with fail-safe operation built in. Request brochure T-348 for additional information or view online at hardingetooling com.
