New PMC Graphics Controller and Video Capture Card Drives Multiple Flat Panel Displays

Low-Cost PMC Card Combines VGA/LVDS/DVI Graphics with Video, DVI and RGB Digitizers

December 15, 2004, OAKLAND, Calif. ---- Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, Real Time Video and Graphics, a Curtiss-Wright company (NYSE: CW; CW.B), and a leading provider of graphics boards for embedded systems, has launched a new cost-effective high resolution PMC graphics display controller and video capture card for VME, CompactPCI and PCI systems.

The Topaz/PMC card addresses the widest range of graphic applications with front and rear-panel I/O configurations. The card, powered by Silicon Motion's 128-bit SM731 graphics accelerator, supports screen resolutions up to 1600 x 1200. The SM731 is configured with 16 Mbytes of high speed SDRAM display memory to provide ample local storage for image and off-screen data such as texture maps, Z-buffer, and backing store. Its advanced 128-bit graphics engine makes it ideal for system designers seeking to upgrade older graphics systems that use, for example, the older and now end-of-life 69030 graphics engine.

Topaz/PMC sets a new standard for entry-level graphics and video cards with unmatched configuration flexibility: it can output a very wide range of graphics and video formats and interface types including single and dual channel analog and LVDS, and single channel DVI and STANAG 3350. Supported analog interlaced formats include RS-170, PAL, NTSC and S-Video. Video inputs supported by the card include non-interlaced, interlaced (RS-170, RS-343, PAL, NTSC and S-Video), and DVI.

"Topaz/PMC is the perfect example of 'more for less,'" said Victor Gold, vice president of graphics technology. "This low-cost graphics card features so many I/O options that it meets the majority of non-rugged graphics applications."

Topaz/PMC Key Features:
o Silicon Motion SM731 System On a Chip (SOC) display controller
o On-board 33/66 MHz, 32-bit PCI interface
o 16 MB SDRAM
o Resolution up to 1600 x 1200
o Simultaneous output of two independent LVDS or analog displays
o DVI output
o NTSC, PAL, DVI or RGBHV video input
o STANAG 3350 A, B and C (with optional Line 19 VIR) support
o Self-Test via Video Output/Input loopback
o Conduction Cooled PMC (CCPMC) Form Factor compatible

The Topaz/PMC supports Linux, LynxOS, Windows and VxWorks operating environments. Software provided by CW Graphics includes SDL (Standard Drawing Library) a compact, scaleable graphics subroutine package for Linux, VxWorks and LynxOS. Windows drivers are available for 2000/XP. VxWorks drivers include support for SDL, X, Xv, and OpenGL/GLX. Drivers for LynxOS in PowerPC environments include support for SDL, X and Xv. Linux x86 and Linux PowerPC are supported under SDL, X and Xv.

CW Graphics also offers compatible families of graphics controllers on PMC, CompactPCI and PCI platforms to offer the widest range of embedded and industrial operating systems compatibility. In addition to Topaz/PMC, Peritek also offers the Garnet/PMC, a similarly featured conduction-cooled rugged PMC graphics controller with rear-panel I/O, available in both Level 100 and 200 ruggedization levels.

Topaz/PMC operating temperature range is 0º to 70º C.

Pricing starts at $750 in single piece quantities. Availability is off-the-shelf.
