Plextronics OLED Ink Again Demonstrates Boost in Lifetime and Lower Operating Voltage at Universal Display Corporation

PITTSBURGH- Plextronics announced today that its Plexcore® OC NQ ink has been integrated into Universal Display Corporation's P(2)OLED(TM) solution-processed, phosphorescent OLED technology to assist in achieving lower operating voltage and longer lifetime in test devices. The latest developments were announced by Universal Display Corporation at the International Display Manufacturing Conference (IDMC 2011) held April 18 - 21 at the Taipei International Convention Center in Taipei, Taiwan. This is the second time in less than five months that UDC has announced breakthrough performance improvements in its P(2)OLED(TM) program that include the use of Plexcore® OC NQ ink.

Plexcore® OC NQ was made available for limited sampling to key customers and partners last October. The non-aqueous-based Hole Injection Layer (HIL) ink complements the company's existing aqueous-based HIL, and is geared specifically for solution processible phosphorescent OLED emitters.

Dr. Kwang Ohk Cheon, Senior Research Scientist at Universal Display, reported the following results at IDMC. All of these results include Plexcore® OC NQ as the HIL:

o The green P(2)OLED system, which offers a luminous efficiency of 68
candelas per Ampere (cd/A), has now achieved 175,000 hours of operating
lifetime. This represents approximately a 1.3 times improvement in
lifetime over results reported last fall.

o The red P(2)OLED system, with a luminous efficiency of 18 cd/A, now
offers an operating lifetime of 125,000 hours for a two-times
improvement in lifetime.

o The light blue P(2)OLED system now offers a luminous efficiency of 29
cd/A and 8,000 hours of operating lifetime for a 1.6 times improvement
in luminous efficiency and lifetime.

"Seeing our key partners and customers, like Universal Display, demonstrate such significant progress reinforces our commitment to collaboration to accelerate the adoption of solution processed OLEDs," said Jim Dietz, Vice President of Business Development at Plextronics. "We continue to rapidly advance the Plexcore OC® NQ technology platform by developing ink-jet printable versions that will deliver long lifetime and low voltage in printed OLED devices."
