Schneider Electric Introduces Modicon® M238 and M258 Programmable Logic Controllers
New PLCs Simplify Installation and Development, Improve Performance
PALATINE, Ill. - Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today introduced Modicon® M238 and M258 programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to simplify machine installation and development, increase power and flexibility, more effectively manage control equipment and improve machine performance.
Both the Modicon M238 and M258 controllers utilize Schneider Electric's SoMachine(TM) automation software to speed machine design, maximize operation and reduce maintenance. SoMachine offers the flexibility of six programming languages; the simplicity of ready-to-use automation system function libraries; the reliability of tested, validated, and documented architectures; and powerful memory management, and debugging functions for ease of installation and faster time-to-market.
Based on Schneider Electric's flexible machine control platform, the Modicon M258 is the newest compact, expandable PLC developed for machine builders in packaging, conveying/storage, textile and woodworking. The integrated M258 embeds Ethernet capabilities, a built-in CANopen master, two standard USB ports, Modbus serial line, and temperature modules. The new PLC offers OEMs speed control, high-speed counting through eight integrated 200 kHz high-speed counters, modularity with removable terminal blocks, open communications, spring and compact terminals, and slice I/O modules.
The Modicon M238 PLC brings power and flexibility to small automation systems, simplifying machine programming with added intelligence through SoMachine, communication with CANopen and integrated communications ports, and integrated business functions. Extensive cabling flexibility and up to seven I/O extension modules make the M238 PLC both customizable and upgradable. The PLC is also easy to integrate using SoMachine and ready-to-use, customizable business functions.
