PLC Couplings utilize radio frequency identification.

Press Release Summary:

IdentiQuik PLC Series electronically verifies line connection accuracy and captures fluid and product data from point-of-origin through point-of-use. Thumb latch allows 1-handed connection and disconnection, while audible click indicates secure union. Made from acetal thermoplastic, couplings operate from vacuum to 120 psi and -40 to 180°F. Applications include analytical instrumentation, deionized water filtration and thermoelectric cooling assemblies.

Colder Products Company Introduces PLC Series with IdentiQuik(TM) Smart Technology

St. Paul, MN - June 15, 2005 - Colder Products Company, the leading provider of quick disconnect couplings, now offers a PLC coupling that incorporates its innovative IdentiQuik(TM) smart technology. The reliable IdentiQuik PLC Series couplings utilize Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to electronically verify line connection accuracy and capture fluid and product data from point-of-origin through point-of-use. This capability helps medical device manufacturers and processors comply with 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.

Colder's IdentiQuik connections integrate RFID into couplings and package closures or inserts. Before the final connection of the body and insert is made, the IdentiQuik coupling halves automatically exchange product data. This enables equipment to electronically identify the device type or connected media and its characteristics. IdentiQuik PLC couplings are ideal for applications such as analytical instrumentation, compression therapy, deionized water filtration and thermoelectric cooling assemblies.

"We recognized the need for a reliable, easy-to-use connection for medical applications that could also minimize product liability concerns," says Jim Brown, Medical Business Unit Manager, Colder Products Company. "The new PLC Series provides excellent chemical resistance as well as the added protection and safety benefits afforded by our IdentiQuik smart technology."

All PLC couplings offer a simple thumb latch that allows for one-handed connection and disconnection. An audible "click" indicates a secure connection, while integral terminations translate to shorter assemblies and faster installations.

The PLC IdentiQuik Series coupling is made from acetal thermoplastic. A polypropylene version will be available in late 2005. Operating pressures range from vacuum to 120 psi at 8.3 bar and temperatures from -40°F to 180°F (-40° C to 82° C).
