Original Press Release:
Moldflow Releases Moldflow Plastics Advisers 6.0
WAYLAND, Mass.--May 16, 2002--Moldflow Corporation (NASDAQ: MFLO), the world leader in process-wide solutions for optimizing the design and manufacture of plastic products, today announced the release of Moldflow Plastics Advisers(TM) 6.0 (MPA(TM) 6.0) software. The Moldflow Plastics Advisers suite of software brings the benefits of advanced process simulation directly to the desk of plastics product and mold designers, enabling them to visualize, communicate and resolve potential molding problems while still in the design phase, when the cost of change is minimal.
The latest version of the MPA product includes significant new features and enhancements to help users more efficiently identify and address critical manufacturability and quality issues in the earliest stages of part and mold design. Major MPA 6.0 enhancements include:
Moldflow Community Center - a set of web-centric tools that foster interaction and collaboration among MPA users and Moldflow Corporation, accessed from within MPA 6.0 using embedded browser technology.
Gate Optimization Analysis - for determining optimized gate dimensions.
Gate Design Adviser - provides gate-specific design advice to troubleshoot and solve gate design problems.
Modeling Tool & Results Visualization Enhancements - including expanded automatic runner generation and geometry mirror capability, as well as a powerful results comparison feature.
Automated Product Performance Logging - an automatic method for users to submit valuable product usage information to Moldflow to aid in creating better products.
Enhanced Geometry Import Interfaces - MPA 6.0 supports Moldflow Design Link 3.0, which allows the direct import of native Pro/ENGINEER(R) part files, as well as Parasolid, STEP, and IGES file formats.
Autodesk Inventor Integration - MPA 6.0 now supports Autodesk Inventor 5.3. Robert Kross, Autodesk vice-president of the manufacturing division, says, "Integrating Autodesk Inventor software with MPA 6.0 will help bolster productivity within both the Inventor and Moldflow communities. The breadth and scope of functionality between both software packages will enable users to address a range of design and manufacturing issues much more effectively." Other CAD systems supported by MPA 6.0 include SolidWorks 2001Plus, EDS Solid Edge 11.0, Co-Create SolidDesigner 2001, and Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 6.0.
Murali Anna-Reddy, Moldflow Plastics Advisers product line manager, says, "As part of Moldflow's commitment to provide ongoing value to the existing MPA customer base, many of the new features in MPA 6.0 are a direct result of customer enhancement requests. In addition, new features such as automated product performance logging will help our users partner more closely with Moldflow Corporation to provide feedback on product usage, allowing us to develop better products that add even more value to our customer's design-to-manufacturing processes."
Beta Site Testimonials
"Our company uses MPA to investigate new electronics products. I am quite impressed with the new automatic gate sizing functionality in MPA 6.0, which gives me a good starting point for designing gates in the early stages of the mold design. When combined with automatic runner balancing, the new automatic gate-sizing feature may change some of the ways we design runners. Another attractive feature of MPA 6.0 is the new ability to compare results from two or more models in a side-by- side fashion. Furthermore, the web-based reports in MPA 6.0 can now combine information associated with more than one model, a feature we are excited about using." Steven M. Will, senior engineering analyst, Tyco Electronics.
"I really like the automated gate sizing. The feature helps to balance the flow, especially when you have family tools. Another feature I like is 'compare results.' Almost all of our analyses involve what-if type comparisons - what if you make the gate bigger, what if you increase melt temperature, etc. This 'compare results' makes it easy to compare whether the change you made is good or bad. Moldflow has been responsive to customer requests regarding new features and functionality, and I have been very satisfied with the support." Steve Steffes, senior design engineer, Certainteed Molded Products Corporation.
