Plastic Rollers Provide Economical Alternatives for Lightweight Conveyor Applications

WILMINGTON, N.C. (June 24, 2002) - Interroll Corp. announced the availability of plastic conveyor rollers for light duty applications. Designated the 1100 Series, the rollers combine plastic bearing housings and stainless steel balls with a variety of lightweight tube materials for free-rolling, corrosion-proof conveyor applications.

"This lightweight, clean design makes the 1100 Series rollers ideal for light-duty gravity conveyors, flow racks and machinery applications," said conveyor component product manager, Kim Hagan. "Depending on the application, low-cost materials such as PVC may be used for maximum economy."

The 1100 Series bearing cartridges are manufactured of molded polypropylene or acetyl plastic with stainless steel balls. The bearings offer double labyrinth seals to protect against dirt and dust. The plastic bearing design provides corrosion resistance especially required in food handling applications. Typical installations include fisheries, canneries, meat packing plants and commercial food equipment. Bearings may be washed or steam cleaned at temperatures up to 150°F without damaging the roller.

Tubes are available in .62", .75", .78", 1.12", 1.18" and 1.90" diameters. Shafts may be selected in carbon steel, aluminum or stainless steel in spring-loaded hexagonal or threaded designs. Due to limited heat dissipation, the rollers should not be used for high- speed powered applications.
