Plastic Ingenuity to Accept 2013 AmeriStar Award for Medical Devices Packaging

The packaging company has been recognized by the Institute of Packaging Professionals for its excellence in packaging design and manufacturing.

The Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) has recognized international packaging company Plastic Ingenuity in its 2013 AmeriStar Awards, a top honor in the industry. Plastic Ingenuity will receive its award for excellence in medical devices packaging on Wednesday, June 19, at this year's EastPack event in Philadelphia, Pa.

Each year, the IoPP presents the prestigious AmeriStar Awards to leaders in the industry, recognizing excellence and innovation in packaging design in a categories like electronics, pharmaceutical and medical devices packaging. This year, PI has been awarded a distinction for its 47-inch catheter delivery system tray, a new design created using a custom-built thermoformer. "It's a true honor to be recognized with an AmeriStar Award," said Jason Crosby, Medical Business Manager at PI. "This project was a major undertaking, but we're very proud of the advances we made and the lasting positive impact they will have on medical packaging design."

PI was able to manufacture this unique piece by building a custom machine designed specifically to thermoform packages of this size and complexity. "A typical thermoformer could never produce this piece," explained Crosby "We're able to do it at PI because we manufacture our own machines in-house, so it's completely proprietary." The result was a packaging design that could be manufactured faster, at a lower cost and with a high level of sterility.

That attention to detail was noticed by the IoPP, which judged competition submissions at its Naperville, Ill. headquarters in April. And while the medical devices packaging AmeriStar Award represents a landmark achievement for PI, it has only galvanized the packaging company's commitment to innovation.. "PI was founded on the belief that we can always create a better solution," said Crosby. "We're always looking for ways to improve our process and our industry, and we certainly aren't slowing down now."
