Emhart Introduces Plastic Fastener with Universal Tie Strap

New fastener cuts production time in half and reduces part number complexity associated with wire harness applications MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (March 3, 2003) - In an effort to reduce the high costs and part number complexity associated with wire harness applications, Emhart Teknologies announced the availability of a universal tie strap fastener. Developed for a wide range of panel thickness and hole sizes, the universal tie strap fastener fits a wide range of hole diameters ranging from 6.2mm to 7.2mm and a sheet metal thickness of 0.6mm to 2.95mm. A full umbrella design resists water and noise leakage, and the attachment tie feature can be adapted to a number of applications, such as fuel line clips, brake line clips, insulation clips, and other W-based attachments. Another feature of this design is that the universal tie strap fastener no longer requires customers to tape the harness to the fastener in wire harness applications. Currently, most wire harness applications use tape to hold the wire harness to the fastener, resulting in increased labor costs and multiple part numbers. "Emhart has designed a unique product that accomplishes two jobs at once," said Randall Leedy, product manager plastic fasteners, Emhart Automotive, a division of Emhart Teknologies. "This new fastener eliminates the problems associated with tracking multiple part numbers, making product supply management an easier task. Manufacturers can simply order one product rather than two, which will save time and money." Leedy added that by developing a product that fits a wide variety of applications, OEMs should see improved production results. "End users no longer have to use unique fasteners for each application. This is a product that will cut production time in half and increase overall productivity."
