igus Expands Line of ESD Energy Chain to Deliver Quiet, Smooth Operation

Significant advancements made in ESD applications which meet new international standard for charge process and discharge

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - June, 14 2004 - igus® Inc.'s Electro Static Discharge (ESD) Energy Chains® now deliver smooth, quiet operation. With the addition of the System E6 line of cable carriers to igus' ESD conductive Energy Chains, igus has expanded its product offering. In addition, the E6 ESD Energy Chains meet the latest international guidelines.

System E6 is designed for applications requiring extremely precise and vibration-free operation. The short pitch and link design of the Energy Chain reduce noise and vibration which may affect the performance of the machine on which it is installed. System E6 is well-suited for printing machinery, measurement equipment, precision-cutting systems and clean room applications. Its modular design enables it to be easily lengthened or shortened.

Igus developed a specially designed, electrically conductive material more than 10 years ago and has been offering ESD Energy Chains for protection in areas exposed to potentially explosive environmental factors since 1992. Both the E6 and E14 ESD Energy Chains meet the requirements of SEMI E78-0998, the new international materials and maintenance resource for applications in a critical environment, such as semiconductor and electronic production.

Another benefit of the System E6 ESD E-Chains® is permanent conductivity. System E6 does not employ a traditional pin and bore to connect the links, but rather use a plastic flex tab. This flexible tab secures the connection both mechanically and electrically and is completely, resistant to wear, enabling permanent, constant values of conductivity for long-term applications.

ESD Energy Chains are a critical component of applications in the semiconductor and mining industries, clean rooms, microelectronic assembly areas or in any application with hazardous or potentially explosive conditions. ESD Energy Chains are conductive and eliminate the potential for sparks. In non-conductive cable carriers the static electricity is allowed to build up and if a spark results an explosion may occur.

As with all igus ESD Energy Chains, the System E6 ESD E-Chains are constructed with electrically conductive plastic and are light gray color. These Energy Chains come in a range of sizes and styles and meet the guidelines set forth by the European Union's ATEX (Atmosphere Explosive) system of rules regarding equipment intended for use in potentially explosive applications.
