New Planning Software from Sungard Availability Services Addresses Business Continuity Requirements of Hospitals

Wayne, Pa., April 3, 2009 - In today's fast-paced healthcare environment, real-time access to medical information and treatment protocols is required to deliver the highest quality of care. LDRPS (Living Disaster Recovery Planning System) for Hospitals, new software from SunGard Availability Services, provides comprehensive business continuity management designed to address the healthcare industry's unique, 24/7 demands for information availability.

The centerpiece of LDRPS for Hospitals is a database that guides business continuity planning and puts a program in place to help IT and hospital operations recover simultaneously after a systems outage. This offering incorporates hospital incident command system methodologies (HICS) to help healthcare providers standardize emergency management plans and procedures. This approach helps ensure all team definitions, reports and job action steps are uniform across the entire organization. The software is also designed to accommodate hospitals' use of rotating staff by allowing pager devices to assist in filling team positions in the event of an outage.

"Data and systems that are quite literally the lifeline of the modern healthcare facility require the smallest of windows possible for recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives," said Brian Turley, senior vice president and general manager, software, at SunGard Availability Services. "Even the shortest IT system malfunction jeopardizes key information, real-time delivery of the most sensitive services and quality of care. A minimal disruption can be too long for medical professionals-and their patients and families."

"Built on 30 years of best practices in the business continuity planning industry, LDRPS for Hospitals will deliver a business continuity approach to help ensure the highest levels of availability and expert support," said Mr. Turley.

Versions of LDRPS for Hospitals will be available with a variety of delivery and functional options, and can be scaled appropriately to fit the needs of healthcare organizations of all sizes. In addition, SunGard Availability Services can host LDRPS for Hospitals at one of its secure data centers located throughout the country. LDRPS for Hospitals is scheduled to be released later in the second quarter of 2009.
